Introduction

Picki ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Orca Kobo. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in, we collect:

  • Anonymous accounts: A randomly generated user ID
  • Google Sign-In: Your email address and display name
  • Apple Sign-In: Your Apple ID email (or relay email if you choose to hide it) and display name

User Content

When you save posts to Picki via the Share Extension, we store:

  • The URL of the shared post
  • Post metadata fetched from public sources (title, description, author, thumbnail)
  • Your personal notes and categories

Analytics and Crash Data

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect usage and crash data, including:

  • App usage patterns and feature interactions
  • Device type and operating system version
  • Crash reports and performance metrics

We do not use this data to identify you, and we use it only to improve the app's stability and quality. If you allow tracking (see Advertising), Firebase Analytics may also read your device's advertising identifier.

Error Logs and Feedback

When something fails in the app (for example, a post that can't be saved), Picki records the error together with your user ID, app version and OS version on our servers, so we can find and fix the problem for your account. If you send feedback from the app, it is stored with your user ID so we can follow up.

Profile and Shared Categories

If you upload a profile photo, it is stored at a public web address so it can be shown to people you share categories with. When you share a category, its members can see the posts saved in it, along with your display name and profile photo. Your personal notes on a post stay private to you.

Subscription and Billing Data

If you purchase Picki Pro, we receive and store:

  • Your Apple subscription transaction identifier (a non-PII token from Apple)
  • Subscription status (active, expired, in trial), product identifier, and renewal date

We do not receive your payment method, billing address, or any financial information. All payments are handled by Apple.

Advertising Data

If you use the free version, Picki shows ads through Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), IP address, and information about the ads you see and tap. See Advertising below.

How We Use Your Information

  • Post Metadata: When you share a link, we fetch publicly available metadata (title, description, thumbnail) to display a preview. We only read the link you share and never access your social media accounts.
  • Storage: Your bookmarks and metadata are stored securely on Supabase servers.
  • Service Improvement: Analytics help us understand how to improve the app.
  • Subscription Entitlement: Subscription transaction data is used solely to determine whether to grant Picki Pro access. We do not use it for marketing or any other purpose.

Subscription and Billing

Picki offers an optional auto-renewing subscription called Picki Pro. All payment processing is handled by Apple — we never see your payment method or financial details.

When you subscribe, Apple notifies our servers (via Apple's App Store Server Notifications) so we can verify the transaction and grant Pro access. We store only the minimum information needed to verify your subscription:

  • Apple-issued transaction and original transaction identifiers
  • Subscription product (monthly or yearly)
  • Status (active, in trial, cancelled, expired) and renewal date

To manage or cancel your subscription, go to your Apple ID account settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on iOS). For refund requests, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Advertising

The free version of Picki shows an occasional sponsored card between your saved posts. These ads are served by Google AdMob; some cards may instead promote Orca Kobo's other apps. Picki Pro subscribers do not see ads.

  • App Tracking Transparency: Picki asks for permission before accessing your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). If you allow it, Google may use the IDFA to show ads more relevant to you and to measure ad performance. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized using the IDFA. You can change this any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Consent in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland: If you are in these regions, Picki shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can review or withdraw your choice any time from the "Privacy Options" row in Picki's Settings.
  • What Google receives: Device and network information (such as IP address, device model, and OS version), the advertising identifier if you allowed tracking, and ad interaction data (such as impressions and taps). Google does not receive your saved posts, notes, or categories.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Supabase: For data storage and authentication
  • Apple App Store (StoreKit): For subscription processing and payment
  • Firebase Analytics: For usage analytics
  • Firebase Crashlytics: For crash reporting
  • Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In: For authentication
  • Google AdMob and Google User Messaging Platform: For showing ads in the free version and collecting ad consent

Each service has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
  • Database access is protected by row-level security policies
  • Authentication tokens are securely stored on your device

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app settings. Upon deletion:

  • All your saved bookmarks will be permanently deleted
  • All associated metadata, notes, and categories will be removed
  • Your account information will be erased

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Your data is only shared with the third-party services listed above for the purpose of providing the app's functionality, and with the people you choose to share a category with, as described in Profile and Shared Categories. In the free version, device and ad interaction data is shared with Google AdMob to show and measure ads, as described in Advertising.

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business, your data may be transferred to the new owner, who will be bound by the same privacy commitments outlined in this policy.

Children's Privacy

Picki is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email.
